Safety Precautions at the ATM
Here are some basic safety precautions to keep in mind at the ATM:
· Always keep your ATM card in a safe place and treat it like you would cash· Never carry your PIN with your card
· Don't lend your ATM card to anyone
· Never tell anyone your PIN
· Prepare any paperwork you may have before you go to the ATM
· Use ATMs during the daytime (try to avoid nighttime use)
· Don't count your money at the ATM or walk with it visibly exposed
· Use your body to shield your PIN if there are people in line behind you
· Save all receipts and compare them to your monthly statements to be sure everything checks out
· Don't pick a PIN easy to guess if someone steals your wallet (such as last 4 of a social when you carry your SS card with you)
· Don't leave your receipt at the ATM
· Don't accept assistance from anyone you don't know at an ATM
· Should you leave your card at an ATM accidentally, call the bank immediately to report it lost/stolen
These safety precautions can protect you from identity theft or fraud or even physical harm when using the ATM. Don't make yourself an easy target. Be safe when you use the ATM.
